How to Dress According to Your Body Shape

How to dress according to your body shape? What styles suit your body shape? And how do you determine what your body shape is? I will try to answer all of those questions in my new blog series dedicated to this topic.

As you might already know, there are several body shapes according to which you should dress to look your best. Keep in mind that those are just tips and not rules. This is just a brief overview of all of the body shapes. I’m going to be publishing a detailed article dedicated to each body shape over the course of this week as a part of my How to Dress According to Your Body Shape series.

So How Do You Determine Your Body Shape

It’ s quite simple. Stand in front of the mirror and have a look at your body. You should be wearing fitting clothes for this to see your curves properly. If you have any photos of yourself where you can see your silhouette, have a look at them. Focus mainly on your shoulders, chest, and hips. Are your shoulders and hips aligned? Are your shoulders larger than your hips? Or are your hips larger than your shoulders?

Still not sure? Grab a measuring tape and measure your bust, waist, and hips. Another aspect is where you tend to gain the most weight. Is it your bust? Your hips? Or your limbs? Also, keep in mind that your body shape can change over the years.

Banana Body Shape

Also called straight or rectangular body shape. Your bust and hips are in balance and as the name suggests, your body looks kind of straight as your waist is not defined. The banana body shape is the easiest one to style. That’s why many models nowadays have this body shape.

Pear Body Shape

The pear body shape also known as the triangle shape is typical for hips wider than the bust, and nicely defined waist. Many women with this body shape believe they have an hourglass body. But don’t worry, you can easily create the illusion of one.

Hourglass Body Shape

If the measurements of your bust and hips are balanced, and you have a very defined waist, you very likely have an hourglass body shape. Congratulations, because you have the most desirable body shape in history!

Strawberry Body Shape

The strawberry body shape is also called the inverted triangle body shape and is basically the opposite of pear. Your upper body is larger than your lower body. Your shoulders are broad and your hips small.

Apple Body Shape

If you have a large upper body and narrow hips with an undefined waist, you’re most likely the apple body shape. With all of the other body shapes, the key is to define the waist and balance the rest. With you, it’s going to be a little different.

Those are the five main body shapes which I’m going to be talking about in the upcoming blog posts. There are other body shapes such as spoon and diamond, but I feel like those can be classified as pear and apple. And of course, there are also different ways to determine body shape, but I find this particular classification the easiest to understand.

This was just an introduction. I’m going to be publishing articles dedicated to each of the body shapes very soon. I’m going to link each of them to the overview in this blog post.

One more thing I’d like to say is that your body is beautiful no matter what shape it has. Appreciate your body the way it is, and keep in mind that what I’m going to share with you in this series are tips, and not necessarily rules. Wear what makes you feel good!

See you soon!

xoxo, S. V.
