How to Dress the Pear Body Shape

Hello everyone!

This is a new part of my How to Dress According to Your Body Shape series. We’ve talked about the banana body shape, and today we will have a look at the pear-shaped body. Let’s dive into it!

  • You have a defined and elongated waist which makes your legs look shorter when compared
  • Your hips are wider than your shoulders
  • You carry most of your weight on your thighs or hips

What to Wear

The general idea is to add more volume to your upper body. Ideally, you want to balance the differences between your bust and hips. You can simply accomplish that by wearing colourful tops, or tops with pattern or clutter. Don’t be afraid of jackets with shoulder padding, tops with statement sleeves. Your shoulders and hips will look more balanced.

Your waist is defined so you should make the most of it, and accentuate your waistline. You can do that by wearing belts, wrap tops or dresses, and fitted lines in general. But be cautious with belts. You don’t want to wear belts that sit on your hips.

As opposed to that, you don’t want to draw much attention to your hips. Steer clear of trousers with patterns, details or pockets o your hip area. Wide or flared leg lines won’t do you justice either. Instead, try to stick to simple one coloured trousers without much detailing.

As for dresses and skirts, stay away from pencil skirts. A-shaped dresses and skirts are your best friends.

Moving on to feet, don’t do things halfway and wear proper high heels. If you don’t feel comfortable walking around in heels, just make sure your shoes don’t go all the way up to your calves.
