Hello everyone!

For today’s post, I’d like to talk about how I cleaned up my diet. I’m really passionate about healthy lifestyle, which includes healthy eating. Also, I’d like to include more health-related posts on my blog. In this post, I’m going to talk about what foods I eliminated from my diet. So let’s get into it!

Dairy

After a couple of nasty breakouts on my face, I significantly reduced my consumption of dairy, and it seems to work so far. When I’m talking about dairy, I mean the usual store-bought kind of dairy, which often contains added hormones and antibiotics. I still love goats cheese, so if it’s a grass-fed and organically raised cheese, then I don’t have a problem eating it.

Majority of Grains

I still eat oats. The day when I stop enjoying porridge is probably never going to come. However, I noticed that certain grains such as wheat are giving me bellyache, and leave me incredibly bloated. Unfortunately, this isn’t limited to only gluten-containing grains. Quinoa (despite it not being a grain, it’s in fact, a seed) has the worst impact on my digestion.

Processed Food

Stuff like sweets, meats such as bacon or sausages, bread, and anything in a package in general. These usually include nasty additives which I don’t want to put into my body.

Refined Sugar

It’s literally everywhere, and it’s also really hard not to eat it. But the effects of consuming a diet high in refined sugar can be detrimental to the body. I’m definitely a girl with a sweet tooth, so when I’m craving something sweet, I opt for fruit instead of candy.

I also reduced the consumption of vegetable oils, such as sunflower or palm oil. I disagree with the process of the extraction of palm oil, and to be honest, there are oils such as olive oils, that are much better for your health.

On another note, if you’ve read any of my What I Eat in a Day posts, you would have noticed that I was a vegetarian. After not eating meat for about a year, I started to have health issues related the inability of my body to consume certain nutrients from plants that are included in meat. I do currently consume meat every once in a while. Most of the time, it’s fish, and sometimes it’s chicken.

This shift to my healthy diet didn’t happen overnight. I definitely took some time. It’s mostly about learning to listen to your body, and giving it what it needs. Once you learn what some of the unhealthy stuff actually does to your body, it becomes a habit for you to go for healthier options.

Now, I just want to put it out there that I didn’t completely eliminate any of these items from my diet. Like I said, sugar is in pretty much everything, even in the foods, you wouldn’t expect it to be. And sometimes, I find myself in a situation or a place where I’m hungry but I can’t find a healthy option. And you know, I still love bread. Eve though it doesn’t love me. It’s definitely important not to beat yourself up for eating something unhealthy, because living healthy is not only about your diet and exercise but also about your mental state. My current diet is based on mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, and the occasional meat and eggs.

And that’s all I have for this post. I hope you enjoyed!

See you soon!

xoxo, S. V.
