Let’s Talk About Insecurities

Hello everyone!

Today I’d like to do something different. I’d like to talk about insecurities. We all have them without exception. Even the seemingly most confident individuals feel self-concerned about something. I’m not sure in what direction I’m going with this post, but bear with me.

I wish I could just tell you that you can do certain things and all your insecurities will magically disappear. That’s not the case and before we start, I think it’s important to acknowledge that there are different kinds of insecurities. Personally, my biggest insecurity as of now is my accent. Obviously, I’m not a native English speaker, and therefore I have a foreign accent. Unfortunately, once you have an accent, it’s really hard to get rid of it. Especially if your mother tongue uses different sounds.

Then there are insecurities about one’s personality. I’ve always been shy. I would never speak up and if you sat me in a corner of a room and came for me hours later, I would still be sitting there. This entire shyness thing makes the accent insecurity even worse. I’m really insecure about my shyness. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being shy whatsoever. But being a shy introvert has made other people think that there’s something wrong with me.

And then, there are body insecurities. It’s okay to have them, but you can’t let it overwhelm you. I know people that let their insecurities control their lives. And I used to be one of them. Of course, I’m still insecure. Some days are better than others, but overall I’m doing just fine. You see, I’ve always been my worst critic.

Here are some things I want you to always remember:

1. It’s okay to be different

The world would be pretty boring if we were all the same, wouldn’t it?

2. Numbers don’t define you

You’re not a number. Throw that scale or measuring tape away. There’s more to you than just your appearance.

3. We are all insecure

We spend twenty-four hours with ourselves every single day. Of course, we start disliking certain aspects about us.

4. It’s pointless to compare ourselves to others

Not only in terms of what we look like. Don’t compare your journey to someone else’s.

5. Don’t be so hard on yourself

You are your own worst critic and the things you hate about yourself might be the things that someone else loves about you. The things unique about you. The things that make you YOU!

6. You are beautiful. You are perfect the way you are. You are enough!
